Now that the cooler weather is here, I find myself pulling out the cookbooks and thinking about making big meals and yummy desserts. While there are lots of family favorites we have during the summer, most of the meals revolve around using the grill outdoors. But when fall and winter rolls around, it’s time to break out the slow cookers and the baking pans for satisfying hot dinners with mashed potatoes and gravy on the side. I do bake during the summer too, mostly muffins, desserts, and light meals. Any time of year, one of my favorite baking dishes is my large Romertopf clay baker.

Romertopf Clay Bakers are wonderful for making juicy meats and stews as well as soups and other slow-cooker favorites. These wonderful dishes are made to be used in the oven only, not for the stove top as some people have found out when they didn’t read the directions. I’ve had my clay baker for years now and it never fails to deliver a tasty dish. The clay has unique cooking qualities, locking moisture inside while the food cooks. In addition to resulting in moist and tender meals, I find that the flavors are more intense too.
